The Southland Electric Power Supply Consumers Trust (also known as the Southland Power Trust) represents the interests of 37,900 Southland homes and businesses connected to The Power Company Limited’s (TPCL) electricity network.
The Trust holds all shares in TPCL on behalf of consumers, ensuring that the benefits are passed directly back to you, the consumer. As a result of this ownership, consumers receive a price discount on their power bills each year and benefit from other power-related incentives and promotions.
Following the electricity industry reforms of the 1980/1990s, the dedication of Southland individuals like Hugh Brown, Rex Baxter, Alan Swallow, Ross McKenzie, King Dick, Bill Bell, Max and Daisey Skerrett, and Geoff Thomson was vital in securing this ownership for the community.
Who we are
We are the Southland Power Trust, representing consumers connected to The Power Company Ltd network across Southland and parts of Invercargill.
The Trust began with government-appointed Trustees, and now, Trustees are elected by the consumers we serve.
