Trust deed

We are committed to the people of Southland, read our updated Trust deed here.

After a dedicated effort from local Southland heroes, in January 1998, the Government returned ownership of The Power Company Ltd by establishing the Southland Power Trust (Southland Electric Power Supply Consumer Trust).

Consumer Ownership and Benefits

Southland Power Trust is fully owned by the consumers connected to the network, ensuring that the benefits of reliable, efficient power services are returned directly to the consumers and community. As a consumer-owned trust, Southland Power Trust is committed to maintaining affordable electricity rates, investing in infrastructure upgrades, and providing annual rebates to its customers, reinforcing its dedication to the well-being of the Southland region.

Our Commitment

Our commitment to sustainability and innovation: Southland Power Trust is at the forefront of promoting sustainable energy solutions. By investing in advanced infrastructure and supporting initiatives like energy-efficient home upgrades, the Trust ensures that its consumers enjoy reliable power and benefit from initiatives aimed at reducing carbon footprints and embracing new technologies like smart plugs and alternative energy sources.

Price Discount

If you are one of our Southland or West Otago Consumers and connected to the TPCL network, you will receive a price discount on your power bill.

To qualify for the price discount, you had to be connected to the TPCL network at midnight on 31 August 2024. The Southland Power Trust returns profits to our consumers by way of a price discount.

However, if you are not inside The Power Company Limited’s network and are more central to Invercargill City or Bluff Township, you may be part of the Invercargill City Council’s network (Electricity Invercargill Limited) and not The Power Company Limited / Southland Power Trusts’ network.

If your power is out, the first step is to check for current outages on the network. This information is easily found on the PowerNet website here.

Each property has an ICP number, which can be found on your power bill. If your ICP number contains the letters ‘TP‘ this means you’re on the TPCL network and should receive the price discount.
