The Southland Power Trust, The Power Company Limited (TPCL) and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) are teaming up to help make Southland homes more energy efficient.
TPCL is owned by its customers through the Southland Electric Power Supply Consumer Trust (Southland Power Trust). The company delivers safe, efficient and reliable electricity to about 36,500 customers throughout rural Southland, West Otago and a portion of outlying Invercargill city.
Southland Power Trust Chair Carl Findlater said “As a consumer-owned electricity network, we see this as a good opportunity to give back to the community and to directly assist the customers.”
EECA’s Chief Executive Andrew Caseley said households will get immediate benefits from switching their old bulbs to LEDs.
“Quality LEDs use around 85% less electricity than incandescent bulbs and up to 50% less than compact
fluorescent lamps, and they also last longer. Each LED that replaces an inefficient bulb can
save you up to $300 over its life.”
